Downtown Boys are a bilingual political-sax-punk-party from Providence, RI. The band writes music about smashing the prison-industrial complex, racism, queerphobia, capitalism, fascism, boredom, and everything else that is used to close our minds, eyes, and hearts. Known for their live performances - which are equal parts punk show, political rally, and religious revival - frontwoman Victoria Ruiz delivers moving speeches between songs, working the crowd into an angry but hopeful frenzy. Downtown Boys trade in danceable, sax-filled anthems with vocals screamed in Spanish and English and delivered with an earnestness, fun, and intensity that's stunned audiences throughout North America.

The Atlanta-based Algiers combines the call-and-response of millenarian gospel, the urgency of 60s protest soul, the intensity of DC hardcore, and the viscosity of post-punk and no wave to create a new sound all of their own. Check it out.
