In the 1980s, in a post-heavy metal, pre-MTV world, with the threat of nuclear war upon them, the members of Voivod decided to live out the end times sipping absinthe, writing music, and donning leather and spikes. In doing so they forged a unique and influential brand of thrash metal. Since then they have been called an anomaly, seminal, iconoclasts, and a "band's band."
