Ugly Purple Sweater, an acoustically-tinged indie rock band from Washington, DC, is known for their exuberant live shows and catchy melodies in peculiar harmonic contexts. On their EP, DC USA, the band's hometown itself becomes the subject of the songs: the EP and title track are named for the Columbia Heights shopping mall that anchors the neighborhood's development and gentrification. DC USA sees that band exploring new textures and styles with the same commitment to vivid and inventive songwriting.
