Join Ugly Purple Sweater and Kingsley Flood as both bands release new albums.
With appearances on NPR, Esquire and Paste magazines and a nod as Americana Artist of the Year at the 2012 Boston Music Awards, Kingsley Flood has solidified its reputation as a raw rock and roll band with a fiery and dynamic live show. Recording its latest full-length Battles - its most honed, complex, and meaningful project to date - with producer Sam Kassirer (Josh Ritter, Langhorne Slim) in an 18th century farmhouse in rural Maine, the DC and Boston-based sextet thrives on dynamics, blending Dylan-esque storytelling with wistful, Kinks-ian pop, and the urgency of the Clash. The band contrasts old and new - jangly acoustic guitars with spikey electrics, gentle violins with rogue keyboards - while honoring hooks and melody. The rowdy live show earned them the title of "Boston's best live band" by the Boston Herald.
Ugly Purple Sweater, an acoustically-tinged indie rock band from Washington, DC, is known for their exuberant live shows and catchy melodies in peculiar harmonic contexts. On their forthcoming EP, DC USA, the band's hometown itself becomes the subject of the songs: the EP and title track are named for the Columbia Heights shopping mall that anchors the neighborhood's development and gentrification. DC USA sees that band exploring new textures and styles with the same commitment to vivid and inventive songwriting.
