What started as a simple idea—stripped-down acoustic songs, a little folk, a little country—has become so much more. Between 2009 and 2011, The NRIs put out two EPs that dabbled in styles such as traditional Indian and folk rock. Since then, they’ve expanded from a 6-piece to an 8-piece, lost a drummer, and found a new one, all while developing their unique sound. For the past couple of years, the band could often be found playing high-energy shows in the DC area and following the muse of lead NRI, Nayan Bhula. After sessions in 2011 and 2013 at the famed Inner Ear Studio in Arlington, The NRIs had two new EPs: “The Charm” and “Playground,” which found an official release after a successful crowdfunding campaign. The new EPs show a band melding styles to create their own brand of Americana.
