Mumiy Troll began as a garage band during the last years of the Soviet Union - they performed illegally and were even jailed on several occasions; as the climate improved for rock music, they became a popular act in Vladivostok. The band gained national, and even international, popularity with the release of their first album Morskaya in May 1997. This year the band is touring America - and they're not just stopping in Brighton Beach and West Hollywood. As lead singer Ilya Lagutenko says: "...we are going to appear before audience that doesn't know us and doesn't understand the words of our songs. So, serious adventures lay ahead of us."
