When it came time for the Brooklyn-based Bishop Allen to sit down and write their next record, the follow-up to the their well-received debut Charm School, they decided to do things a little differently. They decided to write 12 next records. For every month of 2006, the band released an EP of sophisticated songwriting, each one displaying a continually maturing sensibility until the sweet indie-pop of Charm School was like oh-so-much youthful innocence. Now that's one way to beat the fabled sophomore slump. Now that they have a new album, The Broken String - a proper full-length this time - it's time to check them out.
